More than 80 Ugandans living in Kiringente sub County, Mpigi District, have been trained in new skills of generating income.
The trainings, conducted by the area Women Member of Parliament focussed on helping people within the area acquire skills, get in top of an excellent pyramid of sheer economic power, in a tremendous achievement that would help the communities get alternative sources of income.
Among other things, the residents have been trained in producing books and papers, herbal and petroleum jelly using local herbs available within the vicinity of the communities and the production of soap.
“Even people with jobs can also join, teachers get a side income. For many women lack skills and yet, with enough time that we could use to better ourselves for income generation,” Nambooze says.
She added that such products require less capital to produce such things. “They can also come together collectively in groups to ensure that they start making products together since many cannot start alone.”
The trainings moved along with Village Savings and Credit trainings to ensure that each and every person leans how to save and work collectively to ensure their success.
Nambooze, an opposition Member of Parliament, has on many occasions has been struggling to address the excessive unemployment issue which not only affects people in Mpigi alone, but the country at large.
Well as statistics indicate that mostly, the young people are most affected by unemployment, also the elderly and women are affected by the dire effects of unemployment that in the end causes lack of resources to cater for a decent shelter, healthcare, education, clothing, among other issues.
“Our women should learn the new motto: Visualize, learn and later work on any product so as to triumph.” Nambooze said.
She also promised to find market for the products with a competitive price, for a new Uganda, she says, demands that everyone prepares him or herself for prosperity.
The area leaders and the trained residents remained appreciative to the MP for the new skills learned and promised to use them for a better production capacity of their society.
